How big is the boot of the Porsche Macan Turbo EV?

The boot of the Porsche Macan Turbo EV will hold 13 shopping bags, which is less than some competitors like the Range Rover Velar (14 bags) and Audi Q5 (14 bags) and matches the Jaguar F-Pace (13 bags).

Being electric, the new Macan has two luggage compartments – the main rear boot and a frunk the size of a big Esky (84 litres).

The boot opens electronically with a button press and closes the same way, operating really nice and quietly, which is fantastic, especially if you've got kids asleep in the back.

The boot space and its functionality are really important. I like to have a big boot space and little side wells or areas I can divide things into. So something I don't want to move around while I'm driving such as my daughter's lunch bag or her wet swimming gear can be sectioned off in a little well where it's not going to spill or get squashed by the rest of the things in the boot.

Hooks for securing shopping bags to are also favourites of mine, I like being able to secure the bag containing more fragile things like eggs so they don't move around on the journey.

I measure the boot space in freezer shopping bags, prams and dogs. Not because I think all there is to a mum's life is food shopping, prams and dogs. (Although it can feel like it sometimes!!) But because these are visually measurable items we can all associate with. For me, the car company boot measurement of litres is not an amount I can easily visualise and 400L in one car may differ in usability to that in another due to the configuration or shape of the space.

How good is the storage in the Macan Turbo EV for families?

The interior of the Porsche Macan Turbo feels very minimal, modern and luxurious, with lovely screens spanning across the dash. Storage is good throughout the cabin.

In the front, you'll find two cup holders in the central console that will hold a reusable or disposable coffee cup. In front of them is a wireless phone charging pad, and there are also USB-C sockets and a 12-volt socket nearby.

Above that is a phone charging well with a cover.

There's a good-sized central console box behind the cup holders.

The glove box is a good size in the Porsche Macan and will hold a wallet and iPad with the manual.

There are sun visors in the front with illuminated vanity mirrors.

Storage in the back is a bit limited. There's a fold-down armrest in the central seat back with two cup holders that will hold a reusable or disposable coffee cup, and children's drink bottles fit nicely too.

The door bins in the back will hold a refillable water bottle.

For rear passengers, there are air vents in the back of the central console box so you can keep your little passengers at the right temperature while driving. There are also digital climate controls for rear passengers to use, and below those, there are USB-C sockets for charging devices.

How many child seats will fit in the Porsche Macan Turbo EV?

The Porsche Macan has ISOFIX points in the two outer rear seats.

They are within plastic guides with handy flaps over them and a lovely mechanism that makes them nice and easy to access and connect to.

There are top tether anchorages on the back of all three rear seat backs, which are really nice and easy to access through the boot.

I could fit three child seats in the back, which is fantastic news for families that need to. Both forward-facing and rear-facing child seats fit well, and legroom is pretty good.

With a rear-facing child seat behind the driver, probably about a 175cm driver could fit in front. With forward-facing child seats, at least a 186cm driver could fit in front comfortably.

It wouldn't be very comfortable for a passenger to sit between two child seats in the back here – it would be a bit of a shoulder squeeze. Also, the central footwell is quite small in the central position, so if you had a passenger in that central seat, their legs would have to straddle a hump in the floor and the back of the central console sticks out quite far too.

How comfortable is the Porsche Macan Turbo EV for families?

The Porsche Macan Turbo EV comes standard with 18-way adaptive sports seats that are very comfortable and supportive. The optional seat ventilation ($1710 in our test car) is a great addition for Australian summers.

The rear seats are well-shaped and positioned slightly lower than in the previous generation, giving good headroom despite the curved roof. The rear seat base is quite long, which gives good thigh support for adults but means smaller children's legs may stick out straight.

The four-zone climate control is fantastic for families, allowing separate temperature control for rear passengers. The air vents in the rear centre console provide good airflow throughout the cabin.

There are lights in the ceiling in the back above both the rear doors and handles so you can hang a toy for little rear facing passengers on long journeys.

I have found our daughter does not like travelling in the dark in the car so if it gets dark whilst travelling then I reach back and turn the interior light on for her. So it's really important for me that I can reach the rear ceiling light.

Also if I am traveling home and it is getting near to bed time and I DEFINITELY DON'T want her to fall asleep in the car as even a 5-minute nap in the car means bed time is all over!!!! I lean back and pop the light on so it's not dark and try to keep her awake!! Along with screaming/singing at the top of my voice!!!

It is also useful when there are lights situated above the doors where the handles are usually positioned. These are good for when putting baby into their child seats when visibility is poor, so you do not have to reach across them to a light situated in the ceiling centrally etc.

The media system in the Porsche Macan is packed with features and uses both the 12.6-inch curved driver display and the 10.9-inch central touchscreen as well as the optional front passenger screen fitted to this test car.

You get wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto so you can safely access your phone's navigation, messaging, music and podcast apps while driving.

There's a quick access list on the right side of the screen which makes it easy to turn things on and off, like sound settings, which is great for families. You can change many vehicle settings, including drive modes, through the screen.

The camera image when reversing is lovely and clear. You can turn the parking sensors off really easily on the screen…

…and there are camera views from both sides of the car too, which is very handy when parking.

The EV screen allows you to check your battery range and plan charging etc.

You can also adjust the climate control for rear passengers through the front screen, which is really convenient when you've got little ones in the back.

Being fully electric, the Macan Turbo is very quiet inside. There's no engine noise, though you do get the Porsche Electric Sport Sound which when turned on provides a subtle but sporty sound when accelerating in case you're missing that petrol engine noise.

How safe is the 2025 Porsche Macan Turbo EV for families?

The Porsche Macan has a 5-star Euro NCAP safety rating, scoring 90% for both child and adult occupant protection. It scored 83% for vulnerable road user protection and 78% for safety assist systems.

2025 Porsche Macan Turbo Euro NCAP test

In the frontal offset and side impact tests, protection of both the 6-year and 10-year child dummies was rated as good in all areas, with the Macan scoring maximum points in this part of the assessment.

The Macan Turbo comes standard with a lot of safety features including autonomous emergency braking (AEB) with pedestrian and cyclist detection, adaptive cruise control, lane keeping assist with emergency function, blind spot monitoring with safe exit assist, rear cross-traffic alert, surround view cameras with active parking support, traffic sign recognition ,driver fatigue detection and nine airbags including a centre airbag between front occupants

Some of these safety features are also features that drive me crazy as a mum! Like the lane departure and forward collision alert or the parking sensor beeping sound. I want all the safety technology AND to be able to mute the sound when Bub's asleep!

Fortunately, the Macan allows you to adjust the volume of the warning sounds or switch to vibration feedback for some alerts, which is very helpful when you have sleeping children in the car.

What is the 2025 Porsche Macan Turbo EV like to drive?

The Porsche Macan Turbo EV is lovely to drive.

2025 Porsche Macan Turbo EV

It's really smooth and quiet, and visibility is good all around. I can see nicely out the back even with three child seats installed, and the mirrors are a good size.

2025 Porsche Macan Turbo EV with three child seats installed in the second row

Being fully electric, the Macan is whisper-quiet, which is perfect for not disturbing sleeping children. It has an impressive range of 616km on a full charge, and we found it to be very economical with its battery usage while we had it, with a mix of highway and suburban driving.

The Turbo model is extremely quick, it does 0-100 km/h in just 3.3 seconds, which is quite incredible for a family SUV. This makes overtaking and merging onto highways effortless.

The turning circle is nice and tight, especially with the optional rear-axle steering on this car, so it's really nice and easy to park and manoeuvre in smaller supermarket car parks. The rear-wheel steering is Porsche's first for the Macan and makes it much more agile in tight spaces than you'd expect from a vehicle this size.

The air suspension (standard on the Turbo) provides a comfortable ride that absorbs bumps well while still maintaining sporty handling. The different drive modes allow you to set it for comfort, range, or sportiness depending on your needs.

One thing I have noticed since being a mum is I hate it when I reach a destination or get home from being out and Bub has either done really well in the car or she is screaming her head off and I have done really well to keep it together for the entire journey (usually the latter!!) and it takes 10 minutes to park the car! It can be really stressful.

Thankfully, the Macan's surround view cameras and parking sensors make tight parking spaces much less stressful, and the car feels surprisingly nimble.

Charging the Macan Turbo is quick! It can charge from 10% to 80% in around 21 minutes at a suitable DC fast charger (up to 270kW). For home charging, the 11kW onboard charger will fully charge the battery overnight. I used made the most of the solar panels at home and did top-up charges during the day at pretty much zero cost.

If you're considering the Porsche Macan Turbo EV, you may also want to look at these alternatives:

Range Rover Velar More boot space (14 shopping bags) but not electric

Range Rover Velar 2018

Audi Q5 PHEV – Similar boot space (13 shopping bags) at a lower price point and can run on electricity or petrol

Jaguar F-Pace – Same boot space and similarly sporty but time's running out to get one!

Previous generation Porsche Macan – If you prefer a petrol-powered option (same boot space and 3 across)

BabyDrive Verdict on the 2025 Porsche Macan Turbo EV

To sum up, the Porsche Macan Turbo EV makes an impressive family car, especially for those who don't want to compromise on how your car drives during those child-free moments when you take the long way home just because.

You can fit three child seats across the second row…

… and the boot space, while not massive, is good enough and there's more room in the frunk.

The electric drivetrain makes for a quiet and smooth ride, perfect for not disturbing sleeping children, and the 616km range with fast charging means you won't have as much range anxiety on longer family trips.

If your budget allows, the Macan Turbo EV successfully combines the practicality of a family SUV with the performance and feel-good factor of a Porsche! I'd probably go for one of the less expensive versions personally, as who really needs a car this fast?
