I went down to Volksfest 2020 in Brisbane at the weekend to fall in love with all the old classic Volkswagen Kombis and Beetles! Only to find the new VW T-Cross and T-Roc SUVs there for me to explore!

Of course, my daughter LOVED checking out all the classics on display!

While my girl enjoyed learning about old cars that had the engine at the back and a front-boot like a very 21st-Century Tesla, I couldn't miss the opportunity to give VW's latest SUVs the once over for BabyDrive several months before they hit the showrooms! So let's see how the new VW T-Cross SUV fares…

With the exterior styling of a miniatureĀ Tiguan, the VW T-Cross sits higher than the moreĀ Golf-sized T-Roc but is also shorter in length so it's like an SUV equivalent to the Polo. The T-Cross has a rather funky interior, with patterned dashboard panelling…

…as well as patterned seat upholstery too.

The T-Cross has a good size media screen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

In the back, the seats are just as interesting with patterns and contrast panelling. This whole rear seat slides forward and backward to distribute legroom and boot space as needed. When the rear seats are in their furthest forward position there would be little legroom in the back. I'm looking forward to testing how child seats will work with this.

On that note, there are ISOFix points in the two outer seats, within plastic guides.

There are map pockets in the back of both the front seats and the model I looked at had no rear air-vents but did have two USB ports for rear passengers.

A bit like the VW Polo, boot space in the VW T-Cross is slightly limited and I found with the rear seats in their furthest back position the single pram would fit on its side rather than flat. There was room around it for a few bags of shopping.

There are three top tether anchorages on the back of the rear seats, within plastic guides and nice and easy to connect to.

The boot floor of the T-Cross drops down about 10cm, the same as in the VW T-Roc which is great for allowing bigger dogs, prams and more in the boot.

I'm looking forward to giving the VW T-Cross SUV our full BabyDrive testing when it is out later this year and trying it for size with my family. Check out the New VW T-Roc sneak peek here.
