We are testing the updated 2024 Nissan Patrol Warrior. The Nissan Patrol is a fantastic eight-seat four-wheel drive that has been beefed up. For the Warrior model, Nissan has again teamed up with Australian engineering company Premcar, which also created the Navara Warrior. Their challenge was to take the Ti model Nissan Patrol and make some serious adaptions to make it even more capable off-road and build the Nissan Patrol Warrior we're testing today.
For 2024, Nissan Australia worked with Premcar and another Australian company called Directed Technologies to add creature comforts to the Patrol, including a new media system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto plus Hema off-road sat-nav and digital radio. It also has a cooled centre console box, wireless phone charger, USB-C sockets and an upgraded reversing camera that works both with the new screen and digital rearview mirror!
Let's start by putting the updated 2024 Nissan Patrol Warrior through our full BabyDrive testing with child seats and Thule prams. Then we'll take it on some family holiday adventures! Let's see how we get on…
BabyDrive Verdict
The basis for the Patrol Warrior is the Ti model Y62 Patrol and instead of customers buying lots of aftermarket parts, the conversion is already done for you and it keeps the five-year, unlimited-kilometre Nissan factory warranty. As well as smoothing out the buying process for customers (I know my family doesn't have much free time to go around buying and fitting accessories), you can go back to your dealership if anything goes wrong.
The updated 2024 Nissan Patrol Warrior is priced at $104,160 plus on-road costs.
The updates are very welcome and make this off-roader even better for family adventures as well as for daily use with the family. The previous model didn't have the central console cool box because it is based on the Ti Model Patrol, however this has now been introduced to the Patrol Warrior. You can open the cool box from the front seats or from the second-row seats, which is handy for rear passengers to access while driving along. You can imagine it on family holidays for housing the on-the-road snacks and also in day-to-day life such as popping the milk in on the way home from the shops on a hot day!
The biggest and most obvious change is the central dash and media screen update that was done in Australia. The previous models had a small media screen and a quite out-of-date media system without Apple CarPlay or Android Auto. The area where the old screen used to be has a lid and is a new storage area that reminds me of the one in old-school Patrols.
The new 10.1-inch media touch screen has wireless Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and digital radio.
The media system is easy to use and navigate…
You can adjust the volume within the media screen if you have noise sensitive children.
For those that want to make sure everyone can hear the music there is now a six speaker audio system.
And there is an inbuilt sat-nav too, as well as a month trial of Hema off-road sat-nav.
The rear view camera is now higher-definition, filling the large media screen and a big step up from the previous one.
In the central console, there is a wireless phone charging slot.
With the technology update, there is now a video rearview mirror available.
On the dash beside the media screen is a rear cooler button which turns the rear aircon on and off and there is an updated dual-zone zone climate control in the Nissan Patrol Warrior.
The styling inside the Nissan Patrol Warrior is homely and very comfortable for long family road trips as well as everyday travel.
The back of the Nissan Patrol Warrior has good storage. In the third row, there are two cup holders on each side that will hold a refillable water bottle or coffee cup.
In the second row, the central seat back has two cup holders, one for reusable coffee cups and one for kid's drink cups.
There are map pockets on the back of both front seats that will hold and conceal an iPad. In the back of the central console box are two USB-C sockets and a 12V socket.
The door bins in the back are large enough for a refillable water bottle and an iPad and wallet fit in them too.
In the front, the central console provides good storage with two cup holders that will hold a refillable or disposable coffee cup and beside those is a wireless phone charging slot.
There are USB-C sockets and a 12V socket in the front too. Beware that the USBs switch off if you switch the screen off!
The glove box is a practical size and fits a wallet and iPad with the manual.
Above the media screen, where the old media screen used to be, is now storage.
In the ceiling, there is a lined glasses case and lit vanity mirrors in the visors.
The front door bin storage is good too and will hold a refillable water bottle and iPad and wallet fit too.
Storage in the 2024 Patrol Warrior's boot is very practical for family use, when using the first two rows of seats it will hold twenty two shopping bags, which is comparable to the Ford Everest and the Land Rover Discovery which both also hold eighteen shopping bags and more than the Toyota Land Cruiser 300 Series which holds eighteen shopping bags.

When using all three rows of seats the boot will hold eight shopping bags, which is comparable to the Ford Everest which will hold six shopping bags. The Land Rover Discovery will hold three shopping bags and the Toyota LandCruiser 300 Series will hold four.
The Thule Sleek, future-proof, multi-configuration pram with a single seat…

Also the 2024 Nissan Patrol Warrior boot can also accommodate one 90L and one 40L Thule Chasm duffle bags.
Or you can fit a small size dog in the boot of the Patrol Warrior.
When it comes to installing child seats in the 2024 Nissan Patrol Warrior…
…there are ISOFix points in both outer second-row seats. They are not within plastic guides, but they are clearly labelled and within sleis of the seat fabric. The ISOFix are nice and easy to connect to.
Only the two outer second-row seats have top tether anchorages right down at the bottom of the seat bases…
There is also an anchor point underneath a flap of fabric in the central seat base however you can not use this as a top tether anchor point. You can not install a child seat in the central second-row seat.
… you can only install two child seats in the second-row seats. You just need to have the third-row seats up in order to access the top tether points because they are so low down on the seat bases and for rear facing child seats you often need a top tether extension strap. The Nissan Patrol Warrior is so spacious an adult can comfortably fit between two child seats.
In the third-row seats there are no ISOFix…
There is a single top tether anchor point on the drivers side seat…
… So you can install one child seat in the third-row seats.
Legroom is good in the Nissan patrol Warrior too, with a forward-facing child seat in the third-row and a rear-facing infant capsule installed in the second row we can fit a 180cm+ driver in front of it. With forward-facing child seats in the second row you can fit 186cm+ driver or passenger in the front seats.
The second-row seats are split 60:40, the 40 being on the drivers side of the car.
To access the third-row seats with three child seats installed in the second row means you do have to uninstall a child seat in the second row to get through to the third-row seats. There is no third-row access with child seats installed (for those in the comments section yes I know you can theoretically climb through the boot but some three-row SUVs make this much easier).
Rear passengers are kept comfortable in the Patrol Warrior with rear air vents in the ceiling for both rear rows of seats, so you can keep rear passengers the right temperature while driving along.
There are four air vents across the front dash. The controls for the climate are centrally located on the dash and are easy to use and adjust while driving.
There is now dual climate and a button beside the media screen to turn the rear aircon on and off.
The 2024 Nissan Patrol Warrior has not been through ANCAP crash testing but has six airbags as standard.
Dual frontal, side curtain and front knee-protecting airbags are standard.

BabyDrive Indepth - Noise
How noisy is the 2024 Nissan Patrol Warrior? How good is the media system in the 2024 Nissan Patrol Warrior?
Well the meaty V8's twin side exhaust is definitely noisy! There's not much you can do about that but it's part of the fun of this car!
The Patrol's new 10.1″ media touch screen has wireless Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and digital radio.
The media system is easy to use and navigate…
You can adjust the volume within the media screen if you have noise-sensitive children.
For those that want to make sure everyone can hear the music there is now a six speaker audio system.
And there is an inbuilt sat-nav as well as a month trial subscription to Hema off-road sat-nav.

On the dash beside the media screen is a rear cooler button that turns the rear air conditioner on and off. The Nissan Patrol Warrior now has updated dual-zone climate control, which is on the dash below the media screen.
Becoming a parent I soon realised there are some noises and sounds I feel are unnecessary and I could happily live without if it meant my baby stayed asleep!!
That often the distraction of my screaming, distressed baby is more dangerous when driving than not having a lane departure warning for example.
If it is the lane departure warning beeping that creates distress with my baby then which is safest?
It’s where I think we need to be able to strike a balance and choose when we can mute the warnings or swap them to a vibration in the steering wheel or flashing light perhaps?
A lot of these noises come with the increase in technology and especially linked to safety features and alerts. For me these all have their place.
Another thing I have realised is I spend my time in a lot more places where small children roam, parks, beaches, play gyms, swimming lessons, daycare centre etc. I have become more aware that when I’m reversing or manouvering in the car parks I have to tripple check for small children running around behind me or being in my blind spot when reversing. For this I LOVE reversing cameras, I just don’t like their beeping sounds!!
I have become so much more aware of safety and potential accidents or hazards since having a child and so I love the peace of mind that I get from the cameras and sensors combined with my own vision from windows and mirrors as I don’t trust cameras alone.
BabyDrive Indepth - Car Seats
How many child seats fit in the 2024 Nissan Patrol Warrior?
When it comes to installing child seats in the 2024 Nissan Patrol Warrior…
There are ISOFix points in both outer second-row seats. They are not within plastic guides, but they are clearly labelled and within the seam of the seat fabric. The ISOFix anchors is nice and easy to connect to.
Only the two outer second-row seats have top tether anchorages right down at the bottom of the seat bases…
There is also an anchor point underneath a flap of fabric in the central seat base. However you must not use this as a top tether anchor point. You cannot install a child seat in the central second-row seat of the Y62 Nissan Patrol.
So, you can only install two child seats in the second row of the Nissan Patrol. You just need to have the third-row seats up in order to access the top tether points because they are so low down on the seat bases. For rear-facing child seats, you often need a top tether extension strap. On the upside, the 2024 Nissan Patrol Warrior is so spacious that an adult can comfortably fit between two child seats.
In the third-row seats, there are no ISOFix anchors…
There is a single top tether anchor point on the driver's side seat…
… So you can install one child seat in the third-row seats.
Legroom is good in the Nissan Patrol Warrior, too. With a forward-facing child seat in the third row and a rear-facing infant capsule installed in the second row, we can fit a 180cm+ driver in front of it. With forward-facing child seats in the second row, you can fit a 186cm+ driver or passenger in the front seats.

There is no third-row access with child seats installed (for those in the comments section, yes, I know you can theoretically climb through the boot, but some three-row SUVs make this much easier).
BabyDrive Indepth - Drive & Comfort
How comfortable is the 2024 Nissan Patrol Warrior? And How good is the 2024 Nissan Patrol Warrior to drive?
Rear passengers are kept comfortable in the Nissan Patrol Warrior with rear air vents in the ceiling for both rear rows of seats, so you can keep rear passengers the right temperature while driving along.
There are four air vents across the front dash for front passengers. The controls for the aircon are centrally located on the dash below the media screen and are easy to use and adjust while driving. There is now digital dual-zone climate control in the 2024 Nissan Patrol Warrior and there is a button beside the media screen to turn the rear climate on and off.
The front seats of the Nissan Patrol Warrior are very comfortable especially for long journeys. They are easily adjustable and so spacious. They are simply upholstered leather seats.
For a mum travelling in the second row with Bub, the seats have the same upholstery and are very comfortable, too. I found I could sit between two child seats in the second row very comfortably.
In the third row, I could sit comfortably with ample head, leg, and kickroom, and I'm 162cm tall. Third-row seats are comfortable, too, with ample leg and headroom for a 180cm passenger.
For the first year of my first daughters life when we would go out as a family, if I wasn’t driving, I would travel in the back with her so it’s important to check the back seat comfort as you may be spending a lot of time in them! They were never something I gave any thought to before but I definitely notice a good or bad back seat now!
The steering wheel is fully adjustable in/out and up/down. The gear lever is a traditional gear stick in the central console.
There are handles above both rear windows that are well-positioned to hang a toy for little rear-facing passengers and there are lights for rear passengers too above the rear doors.
I have found our kids do not like travelling in the dark in the car so if it gets dark whilst travelling then I reach back and turn the interior light on for them. So it’s really important for me that I can reach the rear ceiling light.
Also if I am traveling home and it is getting near to bed time and I DEFINITELY DON’T want her to fall asleep in the car as even a five-minute nap in the car means bed time is all over!!!! I lean back and pop the light on so it’s not dark and try to keep her awake!! Along with screaming/singing at the top of my voice!!!
It is also useful when there are lights situated above the doors where the handles are usually positioned. These are good for when putting baby into their child seats when visibility is poor, so you do not have to reach across them to a light situated in the ceiling centrally etc.
Visibility is pretty good in the 2024 Nissan Patrol Warrior, which really helps with my daughter's travel sickness. The ride height gives you great visibility out, and it's still really good with child seats installed. The rearview camera image fills the whole media screen and is helpful when reverse parking and hitching up the tow ball to our camper trailer!
One thing I have noticed since being a mum is I hate it when I reach a destination or get home from being out and my daughter has either done really well in the car or she is screaming her head off and I have done really well to keep it together for the entire journey (usually the latter!!) and it takes 10 minutes to park the car! It can be really stressful. Usually I dread parking new cars as they take longer in our tight apartment block carpark, but the Nissan Patrol Warrior was simple to park using the rear-view camera!
BabyDrive Indepth - Safety
How safe is the 2024 Nissan Patrol Warrior?
The 2024 Nissan Patrol Warrior has not been ANCAP crash-tested. It comes with six airbags as standard, including;
Dual frontal, side curtain airbags that extend to the third-row and front knee airbags standard on all variants.
Some of these safety features are also features that drive me crazy as a mum! Like the lane departure and forward collision alert or the parking sensor beeping sound. I want all the safety technology AND to be able to mute the sound when my daughters are asleep!
