BabyDrive Verdict
The new 2024 Mitsubishi Triton dual-cab ute is available in several variants in Australia. Without on-road costs taken into account, the GLX with two-wheel drive is $43,690 and four-wheel drive is $50,940. and the rest are four-wheel drive. The GLX+is $53,290, the GLX-R is $56,740, the GLS is $59,090 and the range-topping GSR tested here is $63,840.

…an in the interior things have been modernised.
As I explored the Triton I was very quickly reminded that the excellent rear top tether anchor points have been gone and are replaced by woven loops for the outer two rear seats which route your child seat's top tether straps to a central metal top tether anchor point. The top tether strap is passed through the woven loop and connected on to the central metal top tether anchor point and child seats can only be installed in the two outer rear seats.
There are ISOFix in the two outer rear seats, they are not within plastic guides and are easy to connect to.
Two child seats can be installed in the back of the 2024 Mitsubishi Triton GSR and I can fit comfortably to sit between them.
This new Mitshubishi Triton has been made longer and wider than the previous model and that shows in the legroom, we could fit a 182cm driver in front of a rear-facing infant capsule.
With forward -facing child seats in stalled in the back we can fit even taller front passengers of 186cm+.
On the exterior of the 2024 Mitsubishi Triton GSR there is a sailplane which provides really good shade in the rear cabin, especially for rear-facing passengers as it helps stop the sun blazing straight in to their eyes through the flat rear windscreen.
On the roof we have installed the Thule Wingbar Evo roof rack using Thule footpack and NEW Thule Fit Kit specifically for the new Mitsubishi Triton. It came in handy for a few planks of wood we purchased while testing the Triton as you can see!
If you want extra storage space on the cab of your New Mitsubishi Triton the Thule fitting kit has Triton specific rubber pads that contour the roof and combined with the torque limited allen-key and factory mounting points, it's gives the perfect attachment. Its almost impossible to mount the Thule Wingbar Evo racks incorrectly.
Did you know, Thule offers a simplified load rating and provides same rating for on and off-road use.
The Thule foot pack mounting system can be integrated with the Thule Caprock roof platform at a later date, without the need to buy all new components.
Storage in the cabin of the 2024 Mitsubishi Triton GSR is good. There is a fold down in the central seat back with two cup holders that can hold a reusable or disposable coffee cup.
The back of the central console box has a 12V socket, USB and USB-C for charging devices.
There are map pockets on the back of both front seats that will hold and conceal an iPad.
At the top of the front passenger's seat are two extra pockets, good for popping my littlest daughter's toys into so she can easily access them.
The rear door bin storage is very generous. They will hold a refillable water bottle or an iPad will fit in them too.
In the front, the central console has great storage too.

Rear passengers are kept comfortable in the 2024 Mitsubishi Triton with air vents in the rear ceiling. There's a rear light in the ceiling and handles above both rear doors so you can hang a toy to entertain little rear facing passengers on long journeys.
The 2024 Mitsubishi Triton GSR has a 9-inch media screen and a new modern system that now has wireless Apple CarPlay and wired Android Auto so you can easily access your phone's music, podcast, navigation and messaging apps. There is also wireless smartphone charging and inbuilt satnav.
There is now a camera button you can use at low speeds when parking and manoeuvring in the 2024 Mitsubishi Triton GSR. The camera quality is excellent, and I found this especially useful during some off-road driving I did previously on the Australian Launch of the Triton so you can see the track in front of you, any obstacles and rocks, etc
When you put it in reverse, the camera image is excellent.
The driver display houses the tyre pressure monitor which is handy when letting tyres down for offroad driving.
The climate controls are on the dash below the media screen so you can access them at any time when driving.
Visibility is good, with only the two child seats in the back, you can see out of the back windscreen of the 2024 Mitsubishi Triton GSR.
And rear passengers get good visibility out of the side windows and the high seating position helps too.
Dual frontal, side chest-protecting and side head-protecting airbags and a driver knee airbag are standard. A centre airbag, which provides added protection to front seat occupants in side impact crashes, is also standard.

How noisy is the 2024 Mitsubishi Triton GSR, and how easy is the media screen to use?

The Triton's indicator sound is not too loud, so it did not disturb my kids while sleeping in the back.
The windows and doors in the Triton are not too loud or noisy to open and close, considering how big they are it's quite surprising!
Becoming a parent I soon realised there are some noises and sounds I feel are unnecessary and I could happily live without if it meant my baby stayed asleep!!
That often the distraction of my screaming, distressed baby is more dangerous when driving than not having a lane departure warning for example.
If it is the lane departure warning beeping that creates distress with my baby then which is safest?
It’s where I think we need to be able to strike a balance and choose when we can mute the warnings or swap them to a vibration in the steering wheel or flashing light perhaps?
A lot of these noises come with the increase in technology and especially linked to safety features and alerts. For me these all have their place.
Another thing I have realised is I spend my time in a lot more places where small children roam, parks, beaches, play gyms, swimming lessons, daycare centre etc. I have become more aware that when I’m reversing or manouvering in the car parks I have to tripple check for small children running around behind me or being in my blind spot when reversing. For this I LOVE reversing cameras, I just don’t like their beeping sounds!!
I have become so much more aware of safety and potential accidents or hazards since having a child and so I love the peace of mind that I get from the cameras and sensors combined with my own vision from windows and mirrors as I don’t trust cameras alone.

The floor is almost flat in the rear footwell giving plenty of kick room for rear passengers. There is a small hump in the central footwell.
The rear doors open nice and wide so there is easy access for passengers getting in and out.

There is room to insert Bub into their child seat from outside the car and from inside, and there is room to feed Bub in the back if you have one child seat is installed.
Australia being a country of weather extremes- blazing sun and torrential rain, mean you may find it easier to put Bub into their seat from inside the car sometimes. If it’s hot you can get the air-con going, cool the car down and not stand out in the sun while you fasten them in or shelter from the rain and not get soaked yourself whilst you’re doing it. So it is important to test whether Bub can be easily installed from either direction!

How comfortable is the 2024 Mitsubishi Triton GSR?
The 2024 Mitsubishi Triton GSR keeps rear passengers comfortable with air vents in the ceiling in the back. There is a light in the central ceiling and handles above both rear doors so you can hang a toy for infants to keep them entertained while driving along.
The climate controls are on the dash underneath the media screen, and they are easily accessible while driving.
The rear seats are comfortable for passengers, not in child seats, with good legroom.
There are four large air-conditioning vents across the front of the dashboard, two underneath the media screen and one at each end of the dashboard.
Visibility is good in the 2024 Mitsubishi Triton GSR. With no child seats able to be installed in the central rear seat you can see out of the rear window.
The 2024 Mitsubishi Triton GSR is a fantastic pick-up to drive. I have driven the GLS and GSR models and enjoyed both of them. I have towed our camper trailer with both vehicles and have found towing slightly more comfortable with the GLS model. The Mitsubishi Triton has a 3.5 tonne towing capacity.

How safe is the 2024 Mitsubishi Triton GSR?
The Mitsubishi Triton scored a five-star ANCAP safety rating, scoring 89% for child occupancy and 86% for adult occupancy.
Of the child occupancy testing ANCAP wrote:
In the frontal offset and side impact tests, protection of the 10 year and 6 year dummies was GOOD and the Mitsubishi Triton scored maximum points in both tests.
The Mitsubishi Triton dual cab is fitted with lower ISOFix anchorages and top tether anchorages on the rear outboard seats. Installation of child restraints in the rear centre seating position of the dual cab is not recommended as there is no top tether anchorage. A child presence detection (CPD) system is not available.
Installation of typical child restraints available in Australia and New Zealand showed most child restraints could be accommodated in the rear outboard seating positions, however the Type A capsule could not be correctly installed in the rear outboard seating positions using either the seatbelt or the ISOfix anchorages.
Installation of child restraints in the second row centre seating position is not recommended as there is no top tether anchorage.
Eight airbags are standard:
Dual frontal, side chest-protecting and side head-protecting airbags and a driver knee airbag are standard. A centre airbag, which provides added protection to front seat occupants in side impact crashes, is also standard.
The 2024 Mitsubishi Triton GSR includes a number of safety features and driver assists technology as standard, autonomous emergency braking (AEB) – Car-to-Car/Vulnerable Road User/Pedestrian/Backover/Cyclist/Motorcycle – Junction/Junction (Pedestrian)/Junction (Cyclist)/Junction (Motorcycle). Blind spot monitor (BSM), driver monitoring system – Direct, forward collision warning (FCW), lane departure warning (LDW), lane keep assist (LKA) – Car-to-Car and Car-to-Motorcycle. Secondary / multi-collision brake, speed assistance – intelligent adaptive cruise control (iACC), auto / intelligent speed limiter, manual speed limiter and speed sign recognition & warning.
Some of these safety features are also features that drive me crazy as a mum! Like the lane departure and forward collision alert or the parking sensor beeping sound. I want all the safety technology AND to be able to mute the sound when Bub’s asleep!
