BabyDrive Verdict
The Audi SQ2 is a sporty and fun little luxury SUV that looks and drives great! But will it surprise us with its practicality for families? Let's see when I put it through our BabyDrive testing…
If like me you only have two kids and might not need a big seven-seat SUV, or you may live where parking is tight, or perhaps you may have a larger family and need a seven-seater for the school runs but a small car for commuting and nipping about without the kids in tow. For this, the stylish Audi SQ2 may be just the ticket.
The interior of the Audi SQ2 is minimal and modern, there are ISOFix points in the two outer rear seats and top tether anchorages on the back of both outer rear seats and a central one behind the central headrest.
I could fit two Infasecure child seats in the back of the Audi SQ2. I installed the Infasecure Attain More rear-facing and the Infasecure Roamer II booster seat forward-facing behind the driver.
With the child seats in this position we found we could fit a 184cm driver in front of the forward-facing child seat, but with the rear-facing child seat only about a 170cm passenger.Ā There is lots of room around the two child seats but I could not fit between them.
Storage in the Audi SQ2 is quite minimal but practical throughout. There are map pockets on the back of both front seats to hold and conceal an iPad and door bins large enough to hold a refillable water bottle in the front and back.
There are two cup holders in the front for reusable or disposable coffee cups and a wireless phone charging tray hidden in the central console box.
The glove box is large enough for an iPad and wallet with the manual.
The boot door of the Audi SQ2 opens automatically when you have the key with you, which I found particularly handy when carrying kids and bags etc out to the car. There is a netted storage area behind the wheel arches in the boot, which are really handy for popping things you don't want rolling around in the boot.
The Audi SQ2 will hold ten shopping bags when empty, that's comparable to the BMW X1 which holds 11 shopping bags and the BMW X2 which also holds 10 shopping bags.
A twin, side-by-side pram will fit in the boot of the Audi SQ2.
Or a single pram with two shopping bags.
Or a compact stroller and six shopping bags fit in the boot of the Audi SQ2.
You could fit a medium-size dog in the boot of the Audi SQ2 if you remove the parcel shelf.
The interior of the SQ2 is modern and minimal. With few buttons and dials, just a small cluster below the media screen.
The Audi SQ2 is a fun, sporty and nippy little car to drive. It is a very enjoyable car for the driver and being a luxury car it keeps all passengers well cocooned from road and outside noise. Being a small car the turning circle is very small which makes parking in school and supermarket carparks nice and easy.
The media system is nice and easy to navigate using a rotary dial down in the central console.
It does haveĀ Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
When you put it into reverse it has a lovely clear camera image which makes parking and manoeuvring even easier.
Overall the Audi SQ2 is a very comfortable and enjoyable car for all on board and if you have one or two children it makes a good family car, with space for two child seats in the back and a double pram in the boot. Legroom is a consideration when using child seats because when you are using rear-facing child seats a passenger of only approximately 170cm will fit in front of it.
The Audi SQ2 is a very enjoyable car to drive and the interior is stylish too.
The Audi Q2 scored a five star ANCAP safety ratingĀ in 2016, it has six airbags as standard. Including dual frontal airbags, side chest-protecting airbags for front and second row and side head-protecting curtain airbags for front and second rows.
